Stephanie - some people make 2 small loaves out of this recipe, but I like to make 1 big one. Actually, at this point - for our family of 7, I prefer to double this recipe and make 2 nice sized loaves to last us longer. It will last us for 1.5 to 2 weeks. Hope this helps! Let me know how your bread turns out~! :)

I'm sorry I'm just now seeing this, it's my first time on this site. I do have a question, though. How many loaves can you make from the recipe? Is it enough for just one loaf, or can I squeeze two loaves from it? My family goes through 2 loaves of bread per week...

So glad that you tried it, Caitlin! And - I have had it do that to me before, too, back in the day. No worries - when you keep making it, you will figure out those kinda things through experience. It doesn't take as long as you'd think! Blessin's to you!

Mmmm mine smells so delicious but it grew HUGE in the oven and does not look all that beautiful. The newbie encouragement helps, I am going to keep trying it! Luckily my husband worries more about taste than anything! :) Thanks for a delish recipe!

I can't wait to try this! I've made bread for years, but not found a 100% whole wheat that my whole family likes. With only one 30-minute raising, I'm eager to try it--that would make the whole process a LOT easier! BTW, I heard about this through Sense and Sensiblities' FB post--thanks Jennie!

Hi Jennie!

Whoo wee! You made my day with your superb comments! I just love it that you tried it and came back to update. Thank you so much! I'm ridiculously happy that you have finally found a bread recipe that works for you. I know that some would look at this one and be overwhelmed - thinking it is too complicated, but it's like you say: there really ARE complicated bread recipes out there! So I believe this one to be a really good basic one that anybody could make on a regular basis.

Also - thanks for sharing the love!

I have to say, too, that I am a fan of your website. It's marked in my favs and I am bound and determined to try some of those patterns one day soon~! <3

Can you hear the strains of the "Hallelujah Chorus" all the way from there? Because that's what we're all singing after trying your bread recipe! I baked bread growing up and for a long time as a newlywed and young mother. Then I fell off the wagon after the birth of my twins four years ago. When I decided to get back to it (with a wonderful new NutriMill to help me), I ran into one failure after another. All the other recipes were so complicated -- all that soaking and sprouting and fermenting and what-have-you. The process inevitably killed my dough and left me with bread bricks--nothing really edible, let alone delicious. I've been trying recipes for a year now and was ready to throw in the towel. I just wanted something simple with only a few ingredients. I ran across your blog (can't remember how I got here, actually!), and I poked around until your gorgeous pictures tempted me to take the wild leap of faith yet again.

Did you ever deliver! We pulled two absolutely stunning, beautiful loaves from the oven this morning, let them cool, then sliced them to eat with our lunch. If you heard all the Huzzahs breaking out Down South, that was just us rejoicing over having Real Bread in the house again!

Thank you so much. I am passing this around to all my friends and posting to Facebook. We're back in the saddle again!
