Custom Car Seat Covers for Little Ones

Is it just me, or did car seat manufacturer’s not really have that many choices in stylish car seats 6-8 years ago when I was buying them more? Our girls are using the same seats that our boys used when they were that small. And they are these blah-blah dingy blue/grey things that just don’t do much for me. However, I don’t really want to shell out the money for whole new car seats, know what I mean? Plus, I think it would be so rad to design your own cover and pick out your choices for fabrics!

Recently, I was browsing online and came across several nifty options for the crazy crafty momma such as myself. The friendly folks over at Moda Bake Shop have cooked up a tasty tutorial that shows you how to make your own car seat cover. It gets bonus points from me because this is a reversible car seat cover, so you can do cutesie pink on one side and blue stuff on the other. LOVE IT!

For a different take on car seat covers, you’ll want to check out Corn Poppy Crafts. She even shows you how to make your own pattern of the car seat first and has many step by step photographs!

If you aren’t up to the challenge of drafting your own pattern, then head over to puking pastilles and check out her patterns for both infant seats and booster seats.

I’m also loving Dana’s car seat covers from over at Joon Bug. Too bad she’s not taking orders right now!

But you can take inspiration from her past covers if you wish to make your own…

When it comes to making new car seat covers for your baby’s seat, do you think it is most important to only use fire retardant fabrics? I’ve read that if you don’t use that, then you could potentially void the warranty on your car seat, so that is something else to consider when shopping for fabrics.

I’m adding this to my never-ending list of crafty projects that I want to try!
